Tracking training attendance
Two minutes at the start of the session that are worth a whole conversation with coordination by season end. And if every team records it the same way, they are worth a whole coordination meeting.
-
01
The five states
Present, absent, excused, injured and late. The difference between absent and excused is what makes the figure useful: without it, the rate is not something you can show anyone.
-
02
How each one counts
Whoever arrives late counts as present in their individual rate, but not in the session rate. Injured does not penalise the player, but it does lower that session rate.
-
03
Take it on the pitch, not afterwards
The list is ticked from your phone as the session starts. Anything left for the next day gets filled in from memory, and from memory everybody turned up.
-
04
Players on trial
Someone on trial appears in sessions from the day they join onwards, not before: it would distort the team history.
-
05
Where to check it
The rate per player is in the statistics dashboard, and the session-by-session detail in the attendance report, which exports to Excel.
-
06
Attendance across the club
Because every team records with the same five states, the attendance of an under-12 side and an under-16 side are comparable. My Club shows each team rate side by side.
-
07
Cross-referenced with minutes
Attendance and minutes played, on the same screen, explain most of a season complaints before they arrive.
